“Remember that you are a walking, breathing miracle growing yet another.”
Written by A Dear Black Woman
To the black mother I am becoming
I know it has been hard
It’s been hard to find time for you
Somehow 24 hours feels like 12 when you’re incubating and growing new life
Okay, so you’ve meditated 3 times in the past 3 months.
And you’ve exercised even less
But I need you to know that you are not lazy
you HAVE accomplished so much, even in your sleep
You and your body, has taken an egg that was invisible to the human eye and have nurtured it to become something as big as a plum
A new life
though small,
You’ve grown an entire being with
bones
a nose
hair follicles
arms and legs
fingers and toes
fingernails and toenails
Did I mention that you’ve made a heart
a heart that beats
faster than yours
You did all of this while just existing
(and eating a LOT of tacos lol)
You are a walking miracle black mother to be
Please don’t let what you aren’t doing distract you from this truth
When you wake up too sick to move
When the thought of even water makes you nauseated
When you wake up in the middle of the night to pee for the billionth time
When you look in the mirror and find yourself feeling "swollen" or "puffy" or “gross"
When you’re too tired to even think about the things you need to do, let alone do them
Remember that you are a walking, breathing miracle
growing yet another.
To the black mother I am becoming
I am in awe of you.
I marvel at you.
I am proud of you.
I trust you.
I love you.
I love you.
I love you.
